Some Non-obligatory Ideas [07 Jan 2007|04:53pm]

[ mood | chipper ]

Hey y'all,

Just want to say that this comm. is great and I think it's very cool to have a community just for 1KBWC, my favorite game! I have really enjoyed looking at all the contest entries here so far, but I have a couple ideas that might shake things up and get some more people posting. These are JUST IDEAS and I'm just THROWING THEM OUT THERE I'm not trying to say that the community is not already awesome or this is what we SHOULD do or anything, just some suggestions!

1. I think we should do contests that get back to the basics: drawing and writing by hand. I think the photo contests are really fun and open up possibilities that you wouldn't normally have when actually playing the game, but I feel like part of the fun of the game is often some of the ridiculous, often badly-drawn pictures that people come up with, and the fun and personal touch of writing things by hand. So my suggestion is that maybe we could supplement the current contests with other ones that are either a title (pref. written by hand) or a drawing and then the contestants make up the rest.

2. Perhaps we can encourage people to post more of their all-time favorite cards! We don't need a contest for that, but any incentive for people to post more cards I think would be good! I'm sure that anyone who has ever played has a stash of really great cards and part of the fun of this community is sharing these cards with others!

So, I'm going to go ahead and get the ball rolling by posting some of my all-time favorite cards...

whole bunch more behind cutCollapse )

I encourage more people to start posting some of their classic cards!

not dying yet [14 Nov 2006|12:53pm]

So, I feel bad, cuz, I dunno, I was the last one running this? But, it's kinda dependent upon everyone. There was no submissions for the last contest, 'cept mine, but I wasn't about to post it without anyone else's. So. What now? What do you want to do? Why didn't anyone make a card for Halloween? Bad idea? Just not enough time?

new picture? [25 Oct 2006|08:48pm]

the reason i didnt post a new picture:
i was wondering if we wanted to possibly change the picture choosing process different.
ive a few ideas, but would like more.

idea one: someone posts 3-5 pictures and you can choose whichever you want
idea two: someone posts 3-5 pictures and we vote on which one to use
idea three: make a card with whatever picture you want

im just thinking that we'd get some more randomness, and some more variety.
what do you guys think?

Congratulations to dlevy for winning last week's contest!  There were two votes for each card last week, but as there was an objection to voting for your own card, I have changed my vote to dlevy

1KBWC Contest Week #1 [13 Sep 2006|08:06am]

I don't think I can do a poll, so we'll just have to vote in the comments.  Here are our first three entries!
Oh, and sorry about the size of the post with no cut.  I always have trouble with rich text.

There are your three choices.  Please comment to vote.  Discuss, politic, argue, cajole.  Voting will end one week from now.

Now, below is the picture for next week's contest:

Remember, to submit a card for next week's contest email it as an attachment to aaronspublic@yahoo.com.  Please put something in the subject line that I will recognize as being for the contest, also include your user-name somewhere.
Good luck!

1KBWC Weekly Card Contest [05 Sep 2006|04:09pm]

[ mood | working ]

For those of you who still check this community, lets try to breathe some life back into it. I am proposing a weekly card contest where an image is given for all people interested to create a card. Each person will have one week to turn that image into a card. Use photoshop, MSPaint, whatever. When the submission deadline is reached, I (or someone else, if you want to take this on) will post that week's submitted cards. Voting will then be opened and will go on for the following week (when a new image will be distributed for card-making).

Any thoughts? Spread the word, this could be a lot of fun. I participate in a similar weekly contest for taking photographs. I will cross post this to a few places.

No, they're not great, but I don't have the energy or motivation to do anything better. Watch out for the killer palm trees!
